The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a watchdog group for environmental toxins. Their website has many helpful resources, including lists of clean/toxic fish sources, water analysis by county, ingredients in cosmetics, and their produce guide to the Dirty Dozen.
The Dirty Dozen is a list of fruits and vegetables that tend to have the highest pesticide/herbicide levels and should be avoided or purchased as organic. Unfortunately, this year, kale has been added to the list.
They also provide a list called the Clean 15, fruits and vegetables that are generally safe, even when they are grown conventionally. These foods generally do not contain toxic levels of pesticides or herbicides.
